With approximately 70 staff members that hail from 26 countries and speak 27 languages, Alliance is the premiere nonprofit organization for welcoming and empowering refugees, immigrants, and underserved residents who face financial, educational, health, language or cultural barriers to realizing their dreams. To help clients overcome those barriers, Alliance provides holistic services including youth empowerment, intensive case management, adult education, workforce training and development, and financial coaching.

Senior Accountant

Position Title: Senior Accountant
Reports to: Finance Manager

Responsible for planning and coordinating the activities of a variety of finance and accounting services that may include, but are not limited to, general accounting, accounts payable, payroll, and Financial reporting.

MAIN DUTIES INCLUDE

  • Prepare financial reports, such as income statements, balance sheets and provide financial Reports to external agencies as required by the Supervisor.
  • Maintains financial security by implementing and monitoring internal controls.
  • Receive cash or checks and maintain adequate record on revenues received.
  • Prepare deposit slips for checks and cash received.
  • Enter bank information receipt information to the General Ledger in QuickBooks.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and general ledger transactions.
  • Work closely with Supervisor in the preparation of periodic financial reconciliations of assigned program funds.
  • Enter program data and program financial transactions into QuickBooks accurately and in a timely fashion.
  • Monitor expenses if they are allowable with budgets.
  • Prepare and monitor program billing documents timely and accurately as directed by supervisor.
  • Monitor program budgets for proper and timely use of funds and for staying within the appropriate line-item budgets.
  • Oversee and track agency programs.
  • Respond to requests from Funding source for information, analysis and assistance.
  • Ensure full compliance with company policy and/or, but not limited to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations as related to job function.  
  • Must consistently demonstrate the ability to independently produce positive business outcomes aligned with organizational strategic initiatives and goals.
  • Must perform job in a safe and ethical manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE AT THIS LEVEL

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major work in accounting, Business administration, finance or a closely related field.
  • Experience over a general accounting function;
  • in a public agency or governmental setting is desirable. Experience in month closing, fund accounting and non-profit is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel and other job related software/e-technology/cloud based solutions.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks will be an advantage.
  • Demonstrated cross-cultural understanding and skills working with the immigrant community. Exceptional costumer service skills and willing to learn in a multicultural community.
  • Ability to communicate and respond to questions in a professional and knowledgeable manner; multi-task and remain detailed and organized; work independently, maintain confidentiality and strong client service at all times.      
  • Consistently demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and a creative approach for generating new ideas with the principles of continuous improvement.
  • Strong organization and filing experience.
  • Experience in State, Federal funding sources will be an advantage.

Program Specialist

Position Title: Program Specialist
Reports to: Director, Interpreter Program (ALN)
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm
FLSA Status: Exempt

To assist in managing the daily operation of the Interpreter Program. To assist in expanding the Interpreter Program through marketing strategies and public relations.

MAIN DUTIES

  • Establish, maintain, and review schedules
  • Maintain accurate interpreter availability lists
  • Resolve scheduling and invoicing problems with the Program Director
  • Provide documentation to the Program Director on changes to schedules and new trainee schedules
  • Update and organize interpreter files /Contacts
  • Assist with marketing materials
  • Assist with orientation for interpreters
  • Assist with identifying new vendors
  • Create reports and spreadsheets
  • Set up and maintain filing system
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the program’s team
  • Assist in tracking and measuring individual productivity
  • Create and submit Interpreter Program check requests for review
  • Provide additional support and planning for department and agency wide activities and functions as needed
  • Other duties as assigned, including airport pick up of newly arrived refugees

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates Degree
  • Bilingual- English and Spanish
  • One-year clerical and customer service experience required
  • Excellent computer skills – proficient in MS Word, Excel, and ability to learn others as needed
  • Must be able to type at least 40 WPM
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to work independently and follow oral and written instructions
  • Multitask and prioritize work

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is primarily performed in an office/indoor/outdoor setting with moderate noise level. This job occasionally requires the employee to be outside; stand; walk; sit; use hands; climb stairs; reach overhead balance; stoop; kneel; read; talk or hear. The employee must lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The employee should never attempt to lift more than 25 pounds.
