For over 30 years, the Alliance for Multicultural Community Services (Alliance) has helped to transform the lives of thousands of refugees, immigrants and underserved residents in the Houston area. With approximately 70 staff members that hail from 26 countries and speak 27 languages, Alliance is the premiere nonprofit organization for welcoming and empowering refugees, immigrants, and underserved residents who face financial, educational, health, language or cultural barriers to realizing their dreams. To help clients overcome those barriers, Alliance provides holistic services including youth empowerment, intensive case management, adult education, workforce training and development, and financial coaching.

Program Specialist

Position Title: Program Specialist
Reports to: Director, Interpreter Program (ALN)
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm
FLSA Status: Exempt

To assist in managing the daily operation of the Interpreter Program. To assist in expanding the Interpreter Program through marketing strategies and public relations.

MAIN DUTIES

  • Establish, maintain, and review schedules
  • Maintain accurate interpreter availability lists
  • Resolve scheduling and invoicing problems with the Program Director
  • Provide documentation to the Program Director on changes to schedules and new trainee schedules
  • Update and organize interpreter files /Contacts
  • Assist with marketing materials
  • Assist with orientation for interpreters
  • Assist with identifying new vendors
  • Create reports and spreadsheets
  • Set up and maintain filing system
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the program’s team
  • Assist in tracking and measuring individual productivity
  • Create and submit Interpreter Program check requests for review
  • Provide additional support and planning for department and agency wide activities and functions as needed
  • Other duties as assigned, including airport pick up of newly arrived refugees

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates Degree
  • Bilingual- English and Spanish
  • One-year clerical and customer service experience required
  • Excellent computer skills – proficient in MS Word, Excel, and ability to learn others as needed
  • Must be able to type at least 40 WPM
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to work independently and follow oral and written instructions
  • Multitask and prioritize work

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is primarily performed in an office/indoor/outdoor setting with moderate noise level. This job occasionally requires the employee to be outside; stand; walk; sit; use hands; climb stairs; reach overhead balance; stoop; kneel; read; talk or hear. Workforce Training Instructor

Position Title: Workforce Training Instructor
Reports to: Workforce Training Manager
Location: 6440 Hillcroft, and various other locations
FLSA Status: Exempt
Hours: 8:30-5:00 Monday-Friday, some evenings and weekends may be required for training

Provide contextualized instruction in reading, writing and math using the Integrated Education and Training (IET) model for students enrolled in all AMCS training programs. Integrate job readiness with a focus on soft skill development and financial literacy into support class curriculum. Provide contextualized instruction at various work sites utilizing the English at Work curriculum. Conduct orientations for new students, administer placement exams, provide tutoring for struggling training students, and incorporate Distance Education utilizing the Burlington English program into training support classes.

MAIN DUTIES

  • Prepare daily contextualized lesson plans based on the various skills training curricula
  • Utilize Distance Education curriculum with training students
  • Incorporate job readiness, job search, financial literacy instruction and planning instruction into the curriculum
  • Provide explicit soft skills instruction
  • Assist students with resume preparation
  • Assist students with setting and achieving financial goals and report
  • Assist students with setting and achieving short and long term SMART goals
  • Assist students with career planning business planning and assessment
  • Work with employers and Houston Center for Literacy to customize ESL curriculum for specific industries and job sites
  • Meet and document all state-mandated performance measures for ESL gains and outcomes
  • Maintain student portfolios in accordance with TWC, HGAC, and Houston Center for Literacy requirements
  • Prepare and maintain correct attendance and performance documentation and performance reports including: daily student sign-in sheets, student outcome and assessment logs, and individual student learning plans
  • Submit all documentation, progress reports; lesson plans success stories and innovative activities to Program Managers in a timely fashion
  • Meet individually with students as needed during the program period, provide tutorials as needed
  • Provide discipline and guidelines for students in the classroom
  • Assist Program Specialists with new student orientation and registration
  • Refer all workforce students to FOC for employment and financial coaching
  • Complete required pre-service and in-service training
  • Some travel within the Houston Metro area required
  • Attend required meetings
  • Other duties as assigned, including airport pick up of new refugees

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree (From the United States or the evaluated equivalent)
  • computer proficient
  • Strong preference will be given to applicants with teaching certification and/or teaching experience with adult students and students from different cultural backgrounds, and/or experience with the IET model
  • Must have own car and liability insurance
  • Must be able to attend trainings some evenings and weekends
  • Transcripts must be submitted to HR Manager prior to interview
  • A commitment to humanitarian issues, particularly as related to refugees, and fostering a welcoming community

Position Title: Alliance Language Network Marketing and Communications Intern

In a competitive interpretation industry, the Alliance Language Network (ALN) stands out for offering interpretation and translation services in over 70 languages and serving 5,000 cases every year. ALN is a social enterprise initiative of the Alliance for Multicultural Community Services.

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION
Alliance Language Network seeks a highly-motivated, self-starter to assist with marketing and communications efforts. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Update website and social media accounts with current and relevant photos, video, or other content from HCD activities and events.
  • Maintain current information on Google+, LinkedIn, and Yelp accounts.
  • Research social media trends.
  • Grow HCD’s online social networks by increasing fan-based and interactions.
  • Communicate with our existing and potential clients to maintain and build strong relationships.
  • Work with team members and executives to brainstorm concepts and content for digital media platforms.

We continue to serve refugee families in emergency situations and develop community partnerships that strengthen their network of support.

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION
Alliance seeks a highly-motivated, self-starter to assist in research, outreach and organization of current projects to strengthen our client services. This internship is a wonderful opportunity to experience various aspects of social work and refugee services in Houston.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with organization, inventory, and distribution of donations in storage room at Bellaire Gardens, a local refugee populated apartment complex
  • Assist in the conversion of our storage room into donation store
  • Assist in creating a store schedule and other management systems
  • Assist in coordinating group volunteer projects to sort and distribute donations as needed
  • Assist in the scheduling and coordination of donation drives as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Reliable and dependable, able to commit to a weekly schedule
  • Able to communicate effectively and consistently with supervisor and fellow interns

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION
The Community Cloth seeks a highly-motivated, self-starter to assist with marketing and communications efforts. Tasks include, but are not limited to, web design, branding, content management, and social media. This internship is a wonderful opportunity to experience various aspects of marketing while working for a well-known, local nonprofit organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in updating and maintaining TCC’s social media presence via Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest.
  • Assist in planning, writing, and managing monthly eNewsletter.
  • Help to create a media kit and media outreach list.
  • Update the website with events, new products, and program updates.
  • Collaborate closely with the Program Manager on new ideas, directions, and venues for marketing and communications.
