With approximately eighty staff members speaking over 22 languages, the Alliance facilitates successful refugee resettlement transitions and provides comprehensive services for all qualified Houston area residents striving to achieve self-sufficiency and independence, including ESL and cultural adjustment classes, case management, financial literacy, credit building, vocational training and a wide range of other support services.

Social Adjustment Services (SAS) Case Manager

JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Position Title: Social Adjustment Services (SAS) Case Manager
Reports To: SAS Program Manager
Pay: Depends on experience and qualifications

Description:
Alliance seeks a full-time Case Manager to provide Social Adjustment Services for eligible client populations, including but not limited to refugees, asylees, Special Immigrant Visa holders, and Cuban parolees. Services are focused on governmental and community benefits applications, medical case management, and crisis intervention services.

Responsibilities:
The Case Manager is primarily be responsible for assessment of clients’ needs and working with clients to create and accomplish individualized service plans that will include:

– Medicaid/county health insurance access
– Food stamp applications
– Counseling related to housing issues, education, and general cultural adjustment
– Referrals to in-house programs and external social service providers
– Translation and interpretation as needed to help client’s access services
– Provide case management duties to ensure compliance with all contracts and agreements associated with the specific office
– Maintain case files on all case management clients
– Develop a plan of action to assist refugees with barriers to self-sufficiency
– Provide data input into the Refugee Data Center for the State of Texas
– Assure compliance with all required reports of the Social Adjustment Services program and ensure reports are submitted in a timely manner
– Serve as a local representative of the agency, by attending meetings, making presentations, and handling public relations duties as required
– Participate in weekly (as needed) staff meetings
– Maintain a good working relationship with other service providers and community partners in the area
– Maintain open and direct communications with other staff
– Fluency in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
– Fluency in Swahili required (speaking, reading and writing)
– Speaking Lingala and French is plus
– Experience working with women’s issues is a plus
– Assist the Program Coordinator with other duties as directed, including airport pick-up
